Introducing a new cat

Odessa, aka instacat, rules the vintage leather recliner in the corner of the living room. She also rules the living room and the bedroom and the suitcase, which I’ve yet to put away and the windowsill with all the plants. Sometimes she rules my eardrums first thing in the morning. She believes she is a loner, stepping just out of reach if you try to pet her too long, but she actually loves attention. When left to her own devices, she undoubtedly settles down onto whatever pair of shoes or clothing she can find. I take this to mean that she misses her human and wants to feel close, even if she can’t bring herself to be physically close.

Odessa is not the first standoffish cat that I’ve owned and I don’t take her seeming shuns personally. She has a particular way about her like most of us. Her way is just very well defined.

I’ve never has more than one cat at once, though, but I’d recently been thinking about what Odessa might be like with a companion cat, so I decided to foster a little brother for her. Last weekend, I traveled over to KittyKind, the adoption agency where I found Odessa. They know Odessa’s personality and were very happy to help find a cat that complimented her strange way.

Meet Crush – forever from now known of as Yanni.

Odessa is pissed, but I think she’ll warm up.Yanni has taken up residence in a safe room, the bedroom, and Odessa is ruling her chair. I’ve been feeding them on opposite sides of the same door and I’ll slowly introduce them. Does anyone have any other advice to add as Yanni settles into the new home?

This weeks cat magnet isn’t quite fair to do for my second one, since Odessa is my little old lady cat. I may have a hard time not showing these in bunches, they are coming along quite well. I thought I’d show a sneak peak of how them when their fresh out of the oven. And from now on, I’ll be doing a weekly update with five at a time.

A while ago, I made a series of quick portraits with speech bubbles. These are all original one of a kind illustrations mounted on fine canson paper in a ready to frame size of 5 x 7. Above are just a few of many I drew. I’ve been holding onto them for a while now, and I just now started adding them to the shop. I’m curious to actually know what people think of these. If you have an opinion, leave a comment and let me know!

And we’re off! Meet Pigeon, aka Piggy, aka nugget, aka weower instead of meower. Yup, she weows, and she is probably one of the best cats I have met. You’ll probably be seeing more custom portraits of this pretty lady. I have done one other one and have plans for a super Pigeon portrait soon.

As I mentioned earlier, I put out a call to all cat owners at work with an offer to make one of these one-of-a-kind custom cat portrait magnets. Each one will come in its own signed and number packaging similar to the one below.

I now have a running list of about 51 cats to draw. I’ve made it through 11 of those, and I’m really excited to start sharing them on the new blog. I plan to finish ten each weekend for the next month, but I’ll probably only be sharing one a week on here. Check out GoodAfternoonan if you want your own little custom pet magnet.

My apartment is currently in shambles while I try to get a studio space organized, but I thought I would share a few of my favorite corners. Check out more of my apartment in this Etsy tour.

What I’m thankful for: I’m sooooo thankful for everyone who has bought from my shop this year. I’ve learned so much about being an entrepreneur from the experiences that have come from running my shop.
